Biodiversity Report - 2017

The sixth annual report of the Independent Expert on human rights obligations relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment described the human rights obligations related to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.

First, the report described the dependence of human rights on biodiversity. Specifically, the report addressed human rights and ecosystem services and human rights and biodiversity.

Second, the report described the human rights obligations relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in three sets of obligations:

(1) procedural obligations;

(2) substantive obligations; and

(3) obligations in relation to people in vulnerable situations.
