Latin American and Caribbean countries launch negotiation of a regional agreement on access to information, participation and justice

Representatives from 19 Latin American and Caribbean countries decided to launch a regional agreement to implement Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration, which promotes access to information, participation and justice in environmental matters.

Meeting at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, the delegates agreed to  begin talks and created a negotiation committee, composed of representatives from the countries and the public.  An Executive Board  co-chaired by Chile and Costa Rica will coordinate the negotiations.
